St. Thomas More (STM) is the Catholic campus ministry at the University of South Carolina. We are a Catholic community, centered around the celebration of the Eucharist. We have several Masses each weekend, and Daily Mass is celebrated or Communion Services are held weekdays at 12:30 PM.
Other activities include the Newman Club (the Catholic student group at the University), the Young Adult Catholics (YACS!), faculty/staff lunches, Bible Study, a Youth Group, an active Parish Women's Group, etc. In addition there are other activities organized by the Parish and the Newman Club over the year, such as retreats, picnics, hikes, guest lectures, spaghetti dinners etc.
Catholics at USC - faculty, staff and students - are encouraged to join us in praying and celebrating our faith and studying our beliefs. Non-Catholics are also welcome to visit with us. Besides students (both undergraduate and graduate), faculty and staff at the University, several area residents have made St. Thomas More their church-home and are involved in the life of this community.
Our Parish's Patron Saint is St. Thomas More (1477/78 to 1535), martyred for his fidelity to the truth of the Catholic faith despite the displeasure of King Henry VIII. The Newman Club is inspired by the tradition of the Venerable John Henry Cardinal Newman (1801-1890), patron of the ministry to college and university students. He was an author, an educator, and an advocate of ecumenism and social justice. Our campus ministry is formally recognized by the Diocese of Charleston, and we participate in several diocesan campus and young adult ministry programs.
Fr. Marcin is available for personal counseling and to administer the sacraments of reconciliation or anointing of the sick. He will also be happy to talk with anyone interested in preparation for baptism, confirmation or marriage.
Our Associate Campus Minister, Zach Dorsch, would love to talk with you about Newman Club, YACS, becoming Catholic, etc. Stop by the Center and hang-out and get to know us.
We hope that you will make St. Thomas More your church home during your stay at USC!
